FUSION
Paraty, Rio de Janeiro
Fusion is a photographic series created during different visits to the colonial streets of Paraty. Although the images were made at different moments, the sequence was constructed to suggest a single day in the city — from the awakening of morning to the movement of the afternoon, and finally into the silence of night.
Using the ICM technique, in black and white with intentional noise, architecture, people, stone streets, rain, and reflections dissolve and converge. The city ceases to be merely a setting and becomes a living matter in motion, where past and present seem to occupy the same instant.
Rain, so deeply present in Paraty's atmosphere, transforms the stone streets into mirrors, amplifies the reflections of its colonial buildings, and merges with the footsteps of those moving through its narrow streets. It is in this encounter between water, stone, light, and movement that the city reveals another dimension.
The photographs do not seek to document a specific day, but to create the sensation of having lived through one. An imagined journey through Paraty's sense of time, where everyday life slowly transforms into memory.
Between morning, afternoon, and night, the viewer is invited to walk through this suspended city — and perhaps to perceive that, for a few moments, past and present can inhabit the same place.
